Custom Wood Fence with Lattice Top Fits Right In

When a fence gets to the point where it's falling apart, it stops doing its job - and it drags down the whole look of the yard with it. That's exactly what we were dealing with here. The old fence was done. So we pulled it out completely and started fresh.

What we built in its place is a solid wood privacy fence with a lattice top running the full length of the property line. The lattice detail was a deliberate choice. It adds a little visual interest without sacrificing privacy, and it ties in naturally with the cedar shake siding on the house. Nothing feels bolted on or out of place.

The gate is one of our favorite parts of this build. It's got a small trellis overhead, heavy-duty black hardware, and the same solid board construction as the rest of the fence. It's the kind of thing you actually want as the entry point to your backyard - functional, but with some character to it. The fence wraps around a tree-lined yard with established landscaping, so we had to be thoughtful about how things lined up and where posts went. It came out clean.

That's really what custom wood work is about. It's not just swapping one fence for another - it's building something that actually fits the property. The materials, the details, the proportions. When it all lines up, you notice it.
